Beat Cop Beat

I remember a time,

long, long ago,

when cops walked

a serious beat.

Flat Foot,

Pounding pavement,

Walking the neighborhood.

Checking in on neighbors...

Hi, Howard,

How's your day?

Swell, thanks!

See ya round...

These days,

Officer Howdy rides in a tank,

dressed in a kevlar shell,

Head filled with regulation and

Racial prejudice,

Built.

Right.

In.

How far can you be

From neighborly

and still see your neighbor

in me?

On Her Own

She woke to the songs of birds

And little puppies yelping for attention

Fresh green grass

and Happy yellow dandelions

and Warm blue memories

of Ball Games

and Belly Rubs

and Snuggly Snuggles in the Big Red Bed.

Was it a Dream?

It must be so...

She doesn't see Them here.

They will be home soon.

She remembers.

Soon.

Above the Clouds

Let's talk about the weather

Life in this world is small talk

We seldom know the Big Story

But chatter endlessly

Absorbed with wind & rain

We innately desire to fly

to soar above the clouds

Lift is what we lack

How to rise above

How to shine like the Sun

Begins not with a change in the weather

But with a change of heart

Thoughts are bubbles or stones

Words are tools or weapons

Actions are evidence

Premeditated

of the Soul's Intention

to return to Paradise.

If you knew how to listen...

two old birds

in a faded blue cage

arguing frequently

about how much room

the other takes

leads to operatic arias

of cruel fate

& irony, yes

and the world goes

to seed

undertones

of true blue

if you knew how to listen

Universal Ovation

of Silence

Love. Turns. On. One's. Head.
